Jake has patrolled the house, hunting for the (seemingly) thousands of eggs that were hidden last night while he slept. The other children (being older) are less than eager to join him in this nearly nocturnal pursuit, but he doesn't seem to have noticed their absence.
Now the tallying begins... literally POUNDS of chocolate, jellies, candies and sweets, divided into neat and organized piles by the very OCD 9-year-old boy, who (through the wisdom of the Easter Bunny) has received the "lion's share" of the take.
He is being very good, though... trying his hardest to be (relatively) quiet so as not to disturb his still sleeping siblings. It is a joy to see a child still so excited about the little family traditions like Easter egg hunts and blowing candles out on birthdays. I'm sure this will be the last year it is like this... or very nearly so, since he is already nine.
The two big kids are going with their father to family near Philly, and I have to work today until 8 PM... so I do hope Liz and Jake can go out tonight and find something fun to have for dinner. I know the traditional modus operandi is to have a big ham or turkey dinner, but for just the two of them, I think Jake would enjoy the time with Mommy while dinning out at a good Chinese buffet. He loves that... and I have a chance at excellent take-out left overs by the time I get home. Everybody wins!
A happy and blessed Easter to all of you, from all of us!
