Let's be straight on one thing...

I don't give a tin whistle's toot whether or not Obama and Michelle went to bat to try and win the 2016 bid for the Olympic Games. None of us complained when Tony Blair did it to win London's 2012 bid, and no one is saying that His Most Catholic Majesty Juan Carlos of Spain was wasting time or money in his support of Madrid's bid. Are the masses rising in anger because Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama did his best to win it for Tokyo? Should we be calling for the resignation of Presidente Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva for going to Coppenhagen... or for winning the bid? That's pretty august company for a man that only 5 years ago no one outside of the Illinois State Legislature had ever heard of... and I can't say that I blame him for wanting to get the face time in.

In normal circumstances, I'd say that these sorts of duties would fall to the office of the Vice President... but even WE couldn't expect Obama to send Biden to Denmark to make a case for Chicago hosting the games, could we? I mean... honestly... can you blame him for NOT sending Biden?

This sort of trip highlights what ISN'T working in the Obama White House far more than it shows what is working (and obviously, the sales pitches aren't working). Obama and his team have spent so much time and energy on "blaming" others for what isn't working that they have no concept (apparently) of how to "spin" a loss or failure. I don't care WHO is President, there are going to be failures and mistakes, and how we deal with those is a huge part of how the nation as a whole learns to look at that particluar President.

For example, George H. W. Bush's Inaugural Address has come to be known as the "thousand points of light" speech, and I think it was the best speech he ever gave. However, what 90% of everyone that remembers his Presidency thinks of when they think of Bush Sr. speeches is the "Read my lips" quote (technically, a campaign speech... he wasn't President when he said it). That is what we (as a nation) will remember about GHW Bush for a long, long time.

Clinton? Does anyone doubt that the Lewinsky affair is what is going to be recalled? Please... say what you will about his foreign policy, or his domestic agenda... no one will ever get past Monica.

Obama is wracking up some big failures pretty quickly in his first term. He promised that his stimulus plan would keep unemployment under 8%... we've been at 9.7% for more than 3 months, and it appears to want to go higher. The value of the dollar continues to fall, and Obama has done nothing (literally, NOTHING) to stop it... even though there are things within his authority to do that could slow or reverse this trend. He promised (very loudly, and very often) that every middle-class family in this nation would see a tax cut of up to 15%... at least 9% if you made between $30k and $60k. His own economic "czars" have now announced that across-the-board tax INCREASES are all but unavoidable... starting in 2010. He promised uncounted times to be a champion of small busniess against the evils of BIG BUSINESS and WALL STREET... yet he gives WALL STREET literally billions in free money and additional credit and support, while the rate of small busniess (less than 25 employees) failure has risen since Feb of this year by 400% and is still climbing.

So now he is reaping the rewards of bad-mouthing America and her interests for the last 6 months with his inability to convince the IOC that Chicago, Ill. is the place best suited to host the 2016 Olympic games. I just don't want to hear anymore crap (and I'm not slamming Ryan... this is just ALL OVER the media, from TV to my Sat Radio) about how he is "in the pocket" of Daley and the Chicago Machine. Please... do we have to bring back conversations about Big Dick and the Haliburton contracts again? If it was okay for Rummy and Big Dick to "stick with what they know"... surely it must be okay for Obama to go to bat for his home town?

There's way better things to piss and moan about, isn't there?
