Got some movies after shopping with Liz and Jake, and wanted to pass on my thoughts...
"Crazies", a 2010 remake of the 1973 classic by George Romero, is good. Worth the viewing, since it is out on video now. Not as campy as most "zombie" movies... but along the same lines.
"Legion" is not so good. I had hopes for this film, since I love the whole concept of angels in movies... but this was like a Terminator movie, with wings. All the flying bullets of a Rambo show, with none of the traditional Judeo-Christian mythos surrounding the central figures of the story. I was particularly disapointed in the concept that Michael, whose name means "like God" in Hebrew, knew better what God needed than God Himself... I'm assuming this was a reflection of the "passee" nature that God holds in the eyes of modern film makers.
"Clash of the Titans"... wow, couldn't even finish this one. I'll give it another shot, but this one sucked... and that is coming from someone who, as a child, saw the original versions staring Mark Hamlin about a dozen times. Eye candy was obviously much improved since the 1981 original, but the story got even worse... full of angst and bitterness, on BOTH sides of the story line. Zeus himself is a bitter, angry despot to start the story.
Funny thing, though... in two of the three movie's preview sections, they have Spartacus: Blood and Sand, which I had thought to mean the series was coming out on DVD... but it didn't say that. Has anyone been able to find the series yet, outside of rentals?
