Maybe we are looking at this the wrong way...

The "conservative" movement in America took a fairly big blow last night. Say what you will about the Presidential race, not ONE Democratic winner of a Senate or House seat can be called "conservative" or "blue dog" or even moderate. Not one.

Now, people like Ryan can contemplate on how tragic this turn of events are, and many will blame such factors as a biased media, or unfair campaign ads, or racial favoritism, or any number of issues on WHY the GOP did so poorly in 2008... but (to quote a Democrat), the "buck" stops with the GOP itself. Bush and the GOP leadership had EVERY opportunity to show the public that (if nothing else) the PROMISES that the LEFT were making are impossible to realize, and that not all the failings of the last 3 years are EXCLUSIVELY GW's fault.

So, the election is over, and we have four years of a Dem in the Oval Office, and at least 2 years of a House and Senate Democratic majority... very likely 6 years. The Dems DIDN'T get their super-majority... so the GOP has a chance to play opposition politics for the next 4-6 years. Is this the way to go?

I say no.

Vote the platform, support conservative goals and agendas, but to hold up legislation or the appointment of judges will gain the GOP nothing. It gives Pelosi and Reid and Obama someone to BLAME when the programs and policies of the NEW administration fail to deliver on their promises. No, vote as you feel you should, but DO NOT play the interference game... we'll not see anything gained, I promise.

THAT was the greatest success of the Clinton years! Bill didn't FIGHT Congress after the '94 mid-terms, at least not seriously... he didn't veto needlessly, he didn't waste public opinion on lost causes like "Pay as you GO" or the "Line Item Veto Act", he allowed the Congress to work its job, and HE took the credit! How many Demcorats think Clinton BALANCED the budget? How many liberals think Clinton came up with a budget surplus? HE just allowed Congress to work, and where it DID work, he basqued in the glory, and where it FAILED, he blamed a Republican-controlled Congress for not listening to him. THAT was his genius.

Time for the GOP to learn from history... they'll have 4 years to study it.
