Someone explain to me how nuclear and coal plants factor into a hydrogen distribution system?
Someone also explain to me how the removal of red tape in the pursuit of BY IT'S VERY NATURE difficult to access natural resources, FINITE amounts of natural resources, is a more favorable course of action than an INFINITE supply of hydrogen? At a much lower cost, by the way.
The creation of another beaurocracy to handle the system, as Ryan points out, has no working model, unlike multi-peril insurance. So the Hoover Dam, not pissing distance from your new pad, is run by PG&E? ConEd? Mississippi Power? Or the federal government?
It's a revenue generating system. People will always need fuel for transportation. The unashamed "liberal" aspect to the plan was the protectionist tariffs and the incentives for the hydrogen fueled vehicles. In the shadow of the stimulus package that just passed, you could take the 600 mil going to global warming studies and spread that out in incentives for the vehicles and do just fine. Money already slated to be spent being spent WISELY this time.
As hard as this is to accept, for all of us, the pendulum swings. If this is a return to big government, at least let's use what big government was GOOD at, what history has proven to be successes. Money making generating or distribution systems are success stories.
