Otherwise, we'll be making morbid Marat jokes like "...maybe he'll cut himself in the bathtub..."
That's what makes me shudder... 200 year old Jacobin quotes and jokes with Ryan associating himself with the enemies of " la Montagnard"!
{Okay... THAT'S elitist and esoteric, right there... hehe}
Look, this isn't anything new. I heard the speech too, and expected Ryan to react... but honestly, I thought his FIRST association would be with Carter's infamous "malaise" speech from '79... not with failed 18th Century radicals.
In the summer '79 (not that Ryan would recall.. hehe), Carter gave this speech that was one of the WORST speeches given by a sitting President (right up there with rave reviews of "Birth of a Nation" by Wilson and "I am not a crook" by Nixon). All "doom and gloom"... and very much like the speech given by Obama.
However, there is one glaring difference: Carter was calling on the PEOPLE to fix the problem (no matter how poorly he was asking), while Obama is promising that the GOVERNMENT will fix the problem.
While I'm proud of Ryan's historical association... dude, you didn't have to go back 214 years to find it!
