Ryan sent a text saying there was a military coup d'etat and that Mubarak was removed... but I got out of work, turned on the radio and all the talk was of a peaceful transition and Mubarak "stepping down" in favor of popular protests.
No coup, but the removal was inevitable once the military seemed to side with the protesters... is this what you meant?
On a related note, I was reading this morning that Mubarak has been in office since 1981 and the death of Sadat... and that 30 year reign makes his the second longest reign in modern Egyptian history. To find a longer reign, one must go all the way back to Muhammad Ali Pasha, who died in 1849 after a 43 year run. Ironically, he died in Alexandria... and he wasn't Egyptian at all. He was Macedonian, and took control of the country after Napoleon lost it, with the help of his Albanian army. Funny, Ali Pasha dying in a city named after another Macedonian ruler of Egypt nearly 2,200 years earlier...
