Read this article I found in the WSJ... it's pretty good and very insightful.
Wisconsin is not a "red state" by any stretch of the imagination... and the article lends itself to that suggestion. Since McCarthy died in 1957, his succesors have BOTH been Democrats (William Proxmire for 32 years and Herb Kohl for the rest), and the other seat was Democrat for the entire span of years since 1963 (Gaylord Nelson/Russ Feingold) with only the single term of Bob Kasten breaking the streak in 1981. Representing the Wisconsin 7th District, David Obey sat that seat since 1969!!! Wisconsin can also boast the first "socialist" to the House... ever. We voted more Progressive Party candidates into the Congress between 1932 and 1938 than any other State.
This kind of GOP sweep in a state like Wisconsin is truly telling... Obama and Co. need to pay very close attention to this one.
