Seems everyone from Al Gore to Bill Richardson is blaming the Tea Party and Sarah Palin (somehow determined to be its official leader) for the shooting in AZ.
When did we, as a nation and a society, find such a driving need to blame someone or something other than the people actually perpetrating crimes? Earlier, I used Mark Chapman as an example... granted, it was 30+ years ago, but I clearly remember the event. Words like "mentally unbalanced" and "insane" did NOT mean Chapman wasn't to blame for the shooting of John Lennon. It was a mitigating factor in his conviction and sentencing, but it did not remove responsibility from the individual.
What changed? What is different now from then? Why wasn't the same concern for "cause and effect" reasoned good enough for Chapman, Hinkley, McVeigh, or any of the rest of the crazies we've had committing crimes across our national headlines?
